1981 #22 Buick Regal

This Buick was driven in the 1981 NASCAR Winston Cup season by Darrell Waltrip with his iconic Mountain Dew paint scheme. After the 1981 season, the car was sold to country music superstar and racer Marty Robbins. Robbins drove the car in the 1982 Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway and the 1982 Atlanta Journal 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which was his final start in NASCAR before his untimely death. Scott and Mark Borchetta surprised Ray by revealing that they had acquired the Buick and intended to restore it. With Ray’s knowledge of vintage stock cars and his experience restoring another one of Marty Robbins’ race cars, they asked him to oversee the project.
